Anarkiwi vs Harry Browne

But that’s not quite true is it, Harry? There are gangs fighting over pharmaceutical and alcohol territories, even primary produce such as honey and apples. The warriors dress in suits and make millions of dollars, investing heavily in political patronage as they seek greater market rents by using the law and “food safety” to exclude their competition.

While they may not be physically violent, these players do harm and indirectly kill consumers. Certainly they initiate force by destroying the free market enterprises and livelihoods of those less well connected politically. Behind the enforcement there is certainly the threat of violence.

Only the state makes it possible. Governments criminalise, or “set standards,” within the marketplace in such as way that the favoured business is discriminated in favour of. Eg. By having large barriers to entry such as the requirement of a fancy lab or sophisticated safety equipment.

(I guess that’s the difference between Harry the Libertarian and myself- Anarchist. Depth perception.)
