1814: Colonisation is just “plastic, chewing gum and washing machines”

June 12, 2021

By AHNZ

This week Willie Jackson hit back at fellow MP Paul Goldsmith for pointing out that colonisation was a net benefit to the Maoris. Jackson spoke of “inclusion” and “respect” then went on to reduce the body of Western culture to a “sale at Briscoes.” The benefits of colonisation, he supposes, can be summed up as the sharing of “plastic, chewing gum and washing machines.”

This is a typical abusive tactic, to lay moral rules down for others and then break them yourself. Jackson is also setting an example of the line many Maori polemicists use to avoid debate: substitute discussion for an invitation.

That is why I am officially inviting Paul Goldsmith to come out to my Marae to speak with my people about the impact of colonization and whether or not plastic, chewing gum and washing machines replace a colonization experience that almost killed our entire people “- W. Jackson, Willie Jackson invites Goldsmith to his Marae for talk on Colonisation, says a Briscoes sale won’t cut it, The Daily Blog

Instead of engaging they try to lure the person to their own home-field advantage. Put them through some anticipation then an alien welcoming ceremony with rules uncertain. Baffle them with bullshit and songs and nose-rubs…create an atmosphere where saying the wrong thing will get you rejected and sent to collect your shoes at the door while upset people in the meeting house curse your back…

Question to AHNZ: Andreas Joe Anarchist History of New Zealand Your views are outdated, disrespectful and clearly personal. Who hurt you bro?

Answer: Andreas Joe Same playbook as Willie Jackson. He talks about respect and inclusion…then in the same breath EXCLUDES and DISRESPECTS the canon of Western heritage by reducing it to a Briscoes chainstore serial discount sale on tea cups etc.

You’re doing the same by attacking me for being ‘outdated’ but wanting to bring up my past. You speak of ‘respect’ but rather than argue the issue you seek to psychologise supposed defects. You criticise me for taking things ‘personally’ and then offer to listen to my intimate traumas…

If I can see through Jackson surely I can see through Joe. Mix up your plays a bit, huh?

Instead of blustering that they have great truths to impart but never delivering…this ridiculous substitution of an invitation to a farce. Not a sign of intellectual strength but so many macron Maoris are doing it these days.

“It has come to my attention that ‘educators’ today have been telling their ‘students’ that “for white people being interested in the history of Aotearoa is a hobby, but for maori it is life or death.” Or, “unfortunately being pakeha we didn’t really have a culture or beliefs… ”

“When I asked the two women who said those things for more information they quickly clammed up. ” – What is English language really?, AHNZ

To be reminded why Western culture is more than yet another weekly marketing tool at Briscoes homewares chain warehouse, see here…Ancestors of the Mind. Is it possible that Jackson and those he inspires really don’t understand culture? Are they really so shallow, so concrete, so empty, as to think Western culture is no more than consumerism? Or is it a manipulative political tactic?

Note: Colonisation of Maori New Zealand started in 1814 with the Missionaries. What actually happened is that the Missionaries were, like those before them, colonised by the Maoris instead! Ref. 1814: A Verifiable Date For White Settlement in NZ
