1925: Henderson Creek

Mostly just me and my canoe these days. I’m a regular explorer and seldom see another soul as the mangroves’ grip grows tighter and tighter. No yachts beyond Te Atatu (except 1 derelict now sunk.)
Can you remember people boating in Henderson’s creeks and rivers? It’s an unusual sight nowadays to see small yachts anchored in the streams. Bertha Morris and three young children are enjoying a day out at the pool area below the Falls Park reserve with a group of suit and hat clad gents, on Boxing Day 1925.- Auckland Research Centres; FB (2018)
I assume that’s what’s going on in the news also around the Coromandel which is why they want to clear the mess away. For that they need a special Act of parliament! Crazy…
On the way to Albany (up Lucas Creek) there are old speed limit signs now overtaken and swallowed by the mangrove. I remember reading in the local paper a few months back that the Te Atatu waterfront used to be a swimming beach within living memory.
How did the eels and shags get so much power?
