1961: Walter’s Bluff

March 19, 2019

By AHNZ

Priceless! This just to hand: After Prime Minister Walter Nash’s 1960 con to connect Nelson by rail to the main trunk failed there was some pay-back. Eternal pay-back.

On the site where Nash promised a railway tunnel would begin, the hillside opposite Founders Park, a private prankster created their own sign “Walter’s Bluff” and the name that stuck and is now official. I love it!

All the towns and street names that politicians have gotten their grubby names on over the years but this one, finally, is one Anarchists can respect and enjoy!

Note to self: Just need to find out the official year of the naming and the photo of Nash caught red-handed mentioned below
