1975: General Election; ‘The Cities’

November 23, 2018

By AHNZ

Oh what a wonderful clip of the 1975 election campaign!

It has been shared by Newshub but released on Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision archives.

The commenters around the traps seem to think the observations in this campaign advert are quite prescient. They were not. In this era New Zealand was already living through the same problems and crises that have garnered much attention recently.

Muldoon and the Nats promised to put a stop to Labour’s nonsense but the people would not allow it. Even Muldoon’s iron will was broken and he buckled to being a populist. Politicians always will, don’t get fooled.

The video ends with a message from Brian Talboys. More about him in my next post.
