1984: Everybody Loves A Winner

March 25, 2022

By AHNZ

In our day the most significant thing about this quote is that it was ever thought normal at all. From the surprise displayed by anyone at some truth we can judge the general culture. Likewise, by promoting and admiring and spreading these words to New Zealand children you can see how different was 1984 to our 2020s.

“Everybody Loves A Winner!”

We don’t openly celebrate winners anymore! Not in these times of collectivism and conformity. Winning needs to be replaced by Participation Certificates or re-defined as being part of an identity group no matter what you contribute or subtract from it.

During what AHNZ calls ‘KZ7 Honor Culture’ there was a concerted New Zealand ethic to put away ‘Tall Poppy Syndrome’ and celebrate success. Physical and mental winning was a thing to be proud of. How times have changed!
