2001: Randell Cottage Writers Trust

July 8, 2025

By AHNZ

A wretched hive of scum and villainy: Randell Cottage Writers Trust (est. 2001) has been cut off from taxpayer funding. How are they going to fund old Leftist authors to spend 6 months of every year writing about how much they hate New Zealand now?

How dare anybody stop paying for this quarter century of cultural masochism!

  • Peter Wells (author of the most retarded and gay book about William Colenso ever)
  • Witi Ihimaera (plagiarist)
  • Owen Marshall (adultery and other sinister dispursions on Kiwi life)
  • Stephanie Johnson (Feminist)
  • Whiti Hereaka (Cultural Trauma of the Māori Community…)
  • Tina Makereti. (“all my books are about racism”)
  • Kirsty Gunn (writes about white racist killers)
  • Rose Lu (LGBTQ+Maori+Chinese)
  • Hinemoana Baker (LGBTQ+Decolonisation colonising Germany)
  • Saraid de Silva (LGBTQ+Sri Lankan)

“A project that has helped our finest authors thrive for more than 20 years is threatened by the axing of state funding, writes Fiona Kidman… Creative New Zealand enthusiastically embraced our vision, and began to fund the New Zealand residency. It was known as the Creative New Zealand Randell Cottage Writing Fellowship. We could hardly believe our luck. Currently, each writer receives about $32,000….All of this is now in danger of ending. The Randell Cottage residency is in crisis. Creative New Zealand announced late last year it would no longer fund it, apparently preferring newer residencies. Worse still, we are barred from applying again for three years.”” – NZ Herald (July 2025)

“The trust is supported by Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand–France Friendship Fund and the Wellington City Council.” – Wiki
