2007: Otago Correctional Facility

May 10, 2023

By AHNZ

Otago Correctional Facility opened on 10 May, 2007. A Labour 5.0 project. Here are the relevant politicians, including Prime Minister Helen Clark smiling about it.

The grinning is a strange incongruity for such a sober installation. Or a horrific one which is what State prisons are.

“OCF was intended to hold about 425 male prisoners and employ 201 staff.” – Wiki (2022)

“When the prison opened it had 220 staff on the books- now the number is 330…When the ODT visited the prison in late November, there were 427 prisoners on site. It has the capacity for 454.” – ODT (11/12/2022)

Built to hold 425 inmates using 201 enforcers it currently holds captive 427 using 330 ‘Screws’. The state-sector crooks have been growing faster than the public sector criminals!

Note: No particular accusation toward Corrections Officers is offered. Everyone who works for The State is a crook. Every crook has their justifications.
