2022: The Peasants’ Revolt

England’s Black Death and New Zealand’s COVID Epidemic have so much in common. King Richard II of England’s pandemic (1348-1350) really killed masses of people whereas Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand’s pandemic (2020-2022) did not. This dissimilarity is not important because in each case the perception was the same.
Peaceful, non-compliant, rebels emerged in both the Medieval case and our modern situation. The Revolts, in each case, are also alike in that neither sought to overthrow the government. London and Wellington were, at this point, host to a revolt. Neither city was under siege. The ‘peasants’ had come seeking an audience and if they were forced to wait then wait the would.
