The Best Symbols and Costumes for Stealing

“Lynda Hallinan: Invest in a high-vis vest and a clipboard to get away with stealing”- Stuff (2017)

Hallinan is absolutely right about this in our era. Why?

New Zealanders have been socialised to over-respect institutions over their own judgement. Our healthy childhood scepticism and personal boundaries have been violated and broken, paving the way for exploitation.

“Professional plant plunderers may also wish to invest in a high-vis vest (you can get them at $2 shops) and a clipboard. Experience has taught me that you can get away with almost anything if you look either official or officious. “- L. Hallinan

Most of this hacking occurs while we are young and in places called Public Schools. Then, we are vulnerable for the greatest exploit of all! We let other people tax and and rule us because they wear sophisticated versions of $2 high-vis vests. They have titles, uniforms, badges, stamps, seals of office, media scribes. It’s magical thinking.
