1991: Death of Billy T James

August 7, 2021

By AHNZ

Today in history, 7 August, 1991, the death of Billy T James aged 43yo.

Billy T came out of a musical background in the 1970s to become The icon of the our K-selected 1980s. As a new Victimhood Culture arrived in 1990 there was not going to be a place for someone all at once so intelligent, deep, funny, entertaining, empathetic, and Maori.

By ‘rights’, Billy T ought to have died in 1989 but medicine revived him for two more years during which he gave New Zealand some more of his very best work.

The so-called comedy in New Zealand today would disappoint Billy. Instead of making fun of other cultures or detonating the Politically Correct and the Offensive with laughter our current crop bend over backwards to conform to it. Soon enough the 2020s will become fertile ground for Billy T Jame’s heirs and we’ll all be able to laugh again.

The following video comes from The Billy T James Show (1990) where the on-screen daughter shocks Billy’s character by laying plans to tattoo her chin….
